1956 MG ZA MAGNETTE HISTORIC RACE CAR

Here is one of the most well known MG Magnette racers - 'BUMBLE'. Built by Roger Andreason of Chevron Cars way back in the 1970s, this famous ZA Magnette has race and rallied with great success ever since, participating in numerous Monte Carlo Challenges and being one of the very few MG Magnette competition cars to have FIA papers (albeit 'old style'). Being a 1956 car, it is one of the very few MG Magnettes that is eligible for invitation to the famed Mille Miglia. We rather hope that it will stay in the U.K and run in HRDC 'Touring Greats' where it qualifies for the increasingly popular Class 'C' (1201cc - 1600cc). And before you have to ask - yes, it is eligible for Goodwood St. Mary's Trophy! Arguably you would have to go a very long way with a large bag of cash to find a more versatile car. Currently being repatriated to the U.K, it will be MOT'd and serviced before being offered for sale. Interested parties should use the email contact form at the bottom of this page to register their interest in acquiring this truly historic MG.

1964 MG MIDGET FIA HISTORIC RACE CAR
FIA VEHICLE IDENTITY NUMBER: 24115
NOW SOLD

The roots of the MG Midget can be traced back to 1958 and the Austin-Healey Sprite, which was announced to the press in Monte Carlo by BMC on 20th May 1958. It was intended to be a low-cost model that allowed easy access to sports car ownership. However such was its versatility that the Sprite range, and the subsequent MG models, quickly opened the door to International motor sport to many drivers – so much so that the MG Midget and its Sprite counterpart still play such a commanding role in historic motorsport today.

The car on offer today is a 1964 model, which was originally prepared for historic racing by the famous RDR race preparation firm (Rae Davis Racing), which specialises in small-capacity BMC race cars. Raced Internationally by seasoned historic racer Ivor Miller and partnered by F1 TV pundit, Tony Jardine, this car was specifically prepared to FIA Period F – 1962 to 1966 (Class: GTS8) and carries current FIA papers to this effect, along with the all-important  'hologram bar code' decal that all proper FIA cars must carry.

In recent years it has been in the possession of a well known British historic race veteran and has taken part in numerous historic races, sprints and hillclimbs. Whilst the car has been actively competing this year, it has recently been the subject of a major refit by marque specialists Moto-Build Racing. This work has included a full strip and repaint (inside and out) in correct BMC Tartan Red, a fresh 1098cc race engine build by Moto-Build Racing coupled to a c/r gearbox and the fitting of an optional, full length fastback hardtop by Ashley. Along with this work, the interior has been totally re-trimmed at great expense. The interesting point about this superbly presented historic race car is the fact that it is fully road registered and road legal – making this a dual purpose competition car that is eligible for both major circuit events such as Silverstone Classic, Nurburgring Oldtimer GP, Spa 6 Hours and Goodwood Revival as well as road-based events such as Tour Britannia, Tour Auto and the Silver Flag.

Presented with full up to date safety equipment (Roll cage, race seats, harness, fire extinguisher system, cut out switch etc), U.K MOT tested until 12th May 2012 and offered with both Works-style 'short' hardtop and the full length Ashley GT variant, this immaculate road registered competition car is ready for a multitude of International historic road and race events.

1964 MG Ashley GT
Here we have a beautifully restored car with an interesting association with the MG factory which, according to a letter contained in the comprehensive history file that accompanies the car, confirms that this MG Midget belonged to a Mr Chris Peacock, who was the last works manager at the MG car works at Abingdon. It further confirms that Mr Peacock used this car for his everyday transport. At that time, the car was still in standard MG specification and it appears that this car was converted to full Ashley GT specification after 1990. During an extensive rebuild at that time, it was fitted with a W&P-type front and an Ashley GT hardtop.

Recently restored by Moto-Build Racing, the official distributors for Ashley GT, this car was undergone a full strip and repaint, during which many Ashley extras were added in the subsequent refit.

Whilst being a fabulous road car, the car is eligible for the HRDC 'Grand Touring Great' Series for sub-1500cc GT cars. Should a prospective purchaser wish to upgrade the car to racing specification - there is an opportunity whereby the sale of the car can be negotiated less the road engine and gearbox - thus affording the purchaser the opportunity to upgrade to 1380cc race engine with a c/r gearbox on a reasonable budget.

On the road price: £15,000
Or less engine and gearbox £12,000

1965 Lenham Spitfire GT
Considered by historic racing pundits to be unique, this rare 1965 Lenham Spitfire GT is probably the only car of its type running in historic racing today. This well known historic GT has twice competed in the Fordwater Trophy at the Goodwood Revival meeting and due to its unique quality, will no doubt be invited for selection to this prestigious, world-class event, again.

Eligible for a host of premier race series, such as Equipe GTS, FISK International, Masters Cloth Cap, CSCC 'Swinging '60s', Heritage GT, this car is now also registered with the HRDC (Historic Racing Drivers Club) 'Grand Touring Greats' Series, where it is entered for the Brands Hatch event on the 9th April (subject to it selling beforehand, whereby the entry will be transferred to the new owner as part of the sale).

Currently run and prepared by Moto-Build Racing, this rare car is offered - 'ready to race'.

Lenham Le Mans
Here we have what is believed to be the very last shell that was ever produced and sold by the original Lenham Motor Company (Julian Booty, Peter Rix). It was never built up and consequently stored for many years. The project was finally started on a Spridget chassis by a retired engineer, who used to sprint and hillclimb Sprites and Midgets. However, time and advancing years got the better of him and he sold the project late last year.

Whilst this project is far from complete - (it has no running gear) and there are some areas of cosmetic welding that could do with detail improvement -this is still a most viable project to build a budget HRDC GT race car, especially at the most modest asking price of £3,950, which gives ample room to complete a budget race car. The body is fully painted and quite a lot of the sub-assembly work has been completed. All in all, this represents a most accessible DIY project at a very realistic budget.
